Have you ever fancied yourself as a ‘Derren Brown’ type? Reading minds, influencing thoughts and weaving psychological illusions?
The chances are, if you have an interest in hypnosis and/or NLP, you probably have!
The Hypno-Tricks and Mentalism ‘Playshop’
Hi there, and welcome to the information page for the forthcoming ‘playshop’ – Hypno-Tricks and Mentalism!
If you are familiar with the work of Derren Brown, you probably know that Derren is a practitioner of the art of Mentalism – a performance art that blurs the edges of reality and blends hypnosis, suggestion and reading non-verbal cues with cognitive illusion and outright sneaky tricks. 😀
Now Mentalism is AMAZING… and when I say that, I am not talking about from a performance perspective!
I first got into Mentalism in 2002 (at the same time I got into NLP and Hypnosis), and, I have to say, over my time playing with this stuff I have learned an enormous amount about human psycho-social dynamics.
Through playing, exploring and experimenting I got better at connecting with people, I got better at reading people, I got more influential and I got more intuitive.
And also, I learned a whole bunch of cool skills that are incredible fun to play with and go down well at parties! Oh, and on top of that I got to…
…accelerate my development as a Hypnotist and Neurolinguist, and got a whole bunch of doors opened for me that would otherwise have remained closed!

So I owe Mentalism a lot, and really think it is a pretty cool artform (understatement alert), but, because of it’s ‘secret’ nature I have never chosen to publicly teach what I know before. (The world of Mentalism has traditionally lain behind “closed but not locked doors”, and I have honoured that and will continue to do – so this workshop is for those who are curious enough to make a commitment and step through the door).
So why am I teaching this now?
Well, for about 8 months now I have been running a private mentoring group, for small number of individuals dedicated to developing top-level skills in communication, influence, hypnosis and self-mastery, and over the months I have found myself teaching more and more mentalism as a means of developing understandings and skill-sets (and, of course, because it is tremendous fun).
So one thing has lead to another and I have decided to put on this public Hypno-Tricks and Mentalism Playshop ( ‘playshop’ because play is a fundamentally a better way to learn than work).
So here is how it will go…
1 weekend of total immersion in the principles and practices of Mentalism with a strong hypnosis blend (naturally).
You will learn:
- Patterns of influence (verbal and non-verbal)
- Cognitive illusions
- Reading non-verbal cues
- Cold-reading skills
- No-fail framing and manoeuvres
- Mnemonic skills
- The dark art of ‘enlightening deception’ 😀
You will also learn to combine all of that into mind-blowing demonstrations of your brain wrangling skills, that amaze your friends, family and colleagues, such as:
- Making impossible predictions
- Influencing choices and perceptions
- Hypnotically altering realies
- Reading thoughts
- Demonstrating super-human memory
- Knowing the unknowable
Now, if that seems incredible, I understand, but know this now…
None of this stuff is superhuman, although it may well make you look superhuman!
The Hypno-Tricks and Mentalism Playshop is for you if…
- You want to develop your skills as a Hypnotist or Neurolinguist
- You want to be able to demonstrate your skills in memorable ways
- Or you simply want to have fun amazing your friends, family and colleagues.
OK, thats all there is to say! If you are interested in this and have any questions, please use the comment section below, otherwise get busy and book:

June 17, 2012Hi james
I have seen a video clip of a mentalist friend of yours ( JB) where a card trick is used to amaze someone http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yG5hBFDWg5g. This seems to send their minds into an area where their view of reality is challenged. The mentalist uses this to confused, open mind state to quickly lead to trance. What a brilliant way to bypass the critical threshold, use as a convincer and maybe also as a pattern interrupt.
Whats your take on using mentalism to produce these types of effects (trance, confusion etc) and will you be teaching any such mentalist routines and going further into the principles behind such phenomena.

June 18, 2012Hi Niy
In my mind, Mentalism and Hypnosis are both about drawing someone into a reality so much so that it becomes their reality. The two can combine nicely, but there are some key understandings that need to be in place to make this work.
You can use mentalism/magic to create confusion, and you can use it to sell ‘trance’, and these are elements that I am more than happy to cover in the workshop (I have a framework, but I am also happy to be adaptable to the needs and wants of those who attend – it will be a small enough workshop to ensure that)
Hope that helps!

July 30, 2012Hi James.
– What about “Cancellations, Refunds and Transfers” for this seminar?
– Can you please indicate 2 or 3 hotels at close (walking) range from the venue, so that I can have an idea of the total cost?
Thank you,
Bruno.

February 9, 2013Hi James. Could you mention some of the hotels located near the training-venue ?
admin
February 9, 2013Hi Kasper
My best recommendation would be the Broadway Hotel, which is 3 minutes walk from the venue. And avoid the Garden Lodge at all costs! Slightly further away is the Letchworth Hall Hotel, which is quite pleasant, but is probably a little out of easy walking distance.
Hope that helps!

February 9, 2013Hello James I find your videos and blog informative and entertaining .I qualified last year as a clinical hypnotherapy after a year of a lot of study and practical I’d like to think I am a reasonably competent therapist .although I do love the mentalism side of things do you think there’s a lot on this course that would be new to me ?
Kind regards
Anthony
admin
February 9, 2013Hi Anthony
If you are new to Mentalism, there will be a LOT on the course that is new to you! Please be clear though, to quote Derren Brown, this is blending “Magic, Suggestion, Psychology, Misdirection and Showmanship”. This means whilst there are plenty of juicy ‘psychological subtleties’ there is a whole host of low-down dirty tricks, both psychological and otherwise, too!
All the very best

February 28, 2013Dear Sir,
This is what I am Interested in. I have seen some magicians doing the same. I need to learn this, but never got any help from any media, resources etc. as this is a secret technique. Hence started doing meditation, Expecting that through meditation I may achieve it. I will be thankful If i could get more information by email.

February 28, 2013Hi Jitendran
I love meditation, but if you want to do this kind of thing, you wont get there by that path.
Mentalism is about creating realities and drawing people into them, and is mostly based in psychological trickery. What you see is most certainly NOT what you get, and this is why there is secrecy around the art – so as the illusions don’t get shattered.
Hope that helps!
