As is probably obvious by it's title, this training is about eliciting classic hypnotic phenomena with both efficiency and precision. Now, you may be a hypnotherapist by profession or simply someone with a personal interest in developing hypnosis skill but, whichever way, I am going to guess that you would like to fully realise your potential as a 'hypnotist' (I tend to prefer the term 'psychoactive facilitator' but that is a long way from catching on 😀 ).

Hypnosis Without Trance 2.0

As you will have gathered from watching the video Hypnosis Without Trance is all about a process based approach to the art of hypnotic facilitation. The focus is on skills and understanding that enable practitioners to always be alive to what is unfolding in the moment and adept at creatively steering, knowledgeably troubleshooting and elegantly maneuvering as required to create and shape powerful experiences with the and for the client.

In 2010, the first Hypnosis Without Trance programme was released to considerable critical acclaim. That programme still sells well today and I continue to get feedback from people telling me how much of a game-changer it is for them in their work.

Now, whilst I still stand by everything I taught in that programme, the reality of things is that my style and approach has continued to evolve - much of what I did back then I know do with more precision and efficiency.

For this reason, I have decided that it would be good to revisit the original concept but from an updated perspective... hence Hypnosis Without Trance 2.0.

What This Training Will Focus On

This workshop is going to focus on a series of phenomena elicitations which we will use to explore principles and develop skills. The emphasis in the room will be on the practical so there will be support materials provided to cover the fundamental theoretical framework.

The live workshop format will also afford the opportunity for you to get personal input on how you can adapt what you are learning to your own work (particularly relevant if you are a professional hypnotist), as well as get personal coaching and feedback as you explore the skills.

Who Is This For?

I had a question via YouTube regarding this point...

"How much experience is required for the Edinburgh intensive? I'm a beginner; lots of psychology knowledge but newbie in hypnosis..."

The reality is that there is no experience required to participate in this workshop, because the approach that we are exploring is completely different from classic 'trance induction' based approaches. This means that even those who have experience are technically 'beginners' in this approach (which is not to say there are not transferable skills).

We will be learning the Hypnosis Without Trance approach from the ground up. If you are new to HWT but experienced in hypnosis, this is going to open up a lot of new perspectives and choices for you. If you are new to hypnosis entirely, this will teach you skills in facilitating hypnotic experiences that will serve you either stand-alone, or in further development in other approaches.

How Does This Fit With Hypnotherapy?

By profession I am a Personal Adaptedness coach (utilising a lot of hypnotic facilitation) and Hypnosis based Changework Practitioner, so the place that I predominantly use hypnosis is in professional client work.

When I first started out studying 'hypnotherapy', I was indoctrinated into the view thatthe elicitation of classic hypnotic phenomena was not overly important in changework. I fully understand this perspective and in part agree - indeed I only really do limited phenomena work (mostly ideodynamics) in the majority of my client sessions.

The driver for developing skill in this area was not so much necessity but the desire for choice - I wanted the choice of whether to creatively utilise classic phenomena in my professional work to be dictated by judgement and not ability... so I set about learning the art.

Having taught many hundreds oh Hypnotherapists the HWT approach to phenomena elicitation, I have found that many use phenomena explicitly and creatively to  great effect. Others simply take the skills they have developed and apply them to the direct hypnotic facilitation of therapeutic change.

Different people use the skills and understandings in different ways, so how you choose to integrate the work is likely to be very personal!

What About 'Street Hypnosis'?

Much of the original Hypnosis Without Trance Hypnosis Mastery Programme was created around demo videos captured in a 'street/impromptu hypnosis' context. Back in 2008/2009 I was doing a lot of street and impromptu hypnosis because it afforded an opportunity to develop my hypnosis skills in a powerfully challenging environment (beyond the comfort and safety of my client room).

These day I rarely do impromptu hypnosis (occasionally at a party or social gathering because the topic of Hypnosis comes up and sometimes it's more useful to show than to tell).

If you are interested in this work, I can certainly recommend it as a vehicle for skills development. On this training we will certainly be unpacking the phenomena that I used to play with in this context, and we will likely touch on some of the psychological subtleties of this type of work... but this is NOT a street hypnosis training per se.
