Having Powers Vs. Being Powerful

A lot of people want to learn Hypnosis because they perceive that having the ‘powers of a hypnotist‘ would somehow better their lives in some way (either directly or via helping others in their own lives).

Well, that certainly is true… potentially! But there is also a hidden paradox that can keep you from realising your potential both as a hypnotist and as a human being.

Anyhows, the video explains all:

I totally agree what you say in your video. I look at this from the point of vieuw of a musician. To make music from the inside out – or perfectly technically performing your musical stuff is also this sort of difference. People who listen carefully feel if something is real (power), than they are touched. When I should live in England I am in for your course, but from Holland it’s to far away,
    Regards, Muus

      Hi Muus

“People who listen carefully feel if something is real (power), than they are touched”

I 100% agree – and it is true of life as it is of music!

The Reality Shaper programme is conducted entirely via online coaching and materials BTW, so if you are interested geography shouldn’t be an issue!

      All the very best

James, I’m in my final year of graduate studies in mental health counseling. I have learned a great deal from you over the past two years. The knowledge I’ve gained from you will certainly infuse the work I will be doing with my clients. Thank you.

I would just like to add that I hope to travel “across the pond” some day and work with you directly. I have decided to do my client work within the frame of Coherence therapy, which accesses deep emotional learning constructs — those very things that lie within the realm of the hypnotic response, and I feel that working with you directly would prove invaluable in honing my skill set. Sadly, this will have to wait a while, as I’ve still got another year of master’s courses and then some time to establish my practice before I will be able to do that.

Let me just say that Coherence therapy relies greatly on the use of what these therapist refer to as “limbic language” to access, validate, and change these deep emotional learnings. This certainly relates to your present topic as being powerful, versus simply using power, as the therapist needs to confidently join with the client within the stance that maintains their symptoms before the client can process change that allows the symptoms to be released.

This type of work, as well as the way in which you work with clients, literally unlocks the synaptic clusters located in the limbic and right brain at the cellular level, allowing these neural complexes to be rearranged. Neuroscientists call this process of unlocking synapses and new learning as “memory re-consolidation,” a thing that was thought to be physically impossible until only about a decade ago.

The creators of Coherence Therapy (once known as DOBT or Depth-Oriented Brief Therapy), Bruce Ecker and Laurel Hulley, pay homage to a whole pantheon of constructivist change workers, including Milton Erickson, Bander and Grindler, and the whole NLP school, to name just a few sources. If you’d like to know more about how these types of techniques actually unlock the brain at a cellular level, I suggest the book, “Unlocking the Emotional Brain, Eliminating Symptoms at Their Roots Using Memory Reconsolidation” by Ecker, Ticic, and Hulley.

      Hi Laura

If you are interested in working with me WITHOUT having to travel across the pond, there is a great opportunity coming up with the Reality Shaper programme!

      All the very best

Thank you, James. Sadly, I’m a “starving student” at the moment. Perhaps you will repeat these programmes in the future?

      Hi Laura

The current plan is for this to roll every 6 months.

      Best
