If you are intending to truly master hypnosis, it is important to realise that not all ‘hypnotics subjects’ are created (or developed) equal!
When it comes to hypnotic phenomena, people have different aptitudes. Some do catalepsy better than visual hallucination or amnesia, some do visual hallucinations more easily. This has nothing to do with depth of ‘trance’!
The truth is, depending upon ‘cognitive style’ different subjects display different aptitudes for different phenomena. So a major part of the art is being flexible enough to bring out the best in your subject rather than imposing your pre-determined ideas upon them.
