Hypnosis Conversation – James Tripp & Jeffrey Stephens

***Video & Podcast Below!***

This is a podcast of a ‘Hypnosis Conversations’ between me  (James Tripp) and Jeffrey Stephens. Jeff is a guy with a lot of passion about hypnosis and a lot to say on the subject – not to mention being a practitioner of great skill!

On the surface Jeff’s approach to hypnosis looks pretty different from HWT. It has a more ‘old school’ trance based look and feel, but if you get underneath that we have a lot more in common than one may first think.

And we also have an awful lot of  differences!!!

Steering the conversation is U.K. Hypnotherapist and Fighters Mind coach Alan Whitton.

Enjoy the video and podcast!

Great podcast. I’ve learnt a lot. For me the most important implication is: you both are very different and very effective and I think that’s because you shaped the process to fit your personalities so you got the congruency. That means for me: “Stop trying to copy other’s behaviour, be yourself, learn, understand and adapt the process so it fits you. This will help you to achieve this congruency and cecertainty.” Thanks!

Shame Jeff hasn’t answered the question about the role of the social compliance in the process. I think you underestimate this, James. Without their submission you would not be able to lead them, would you?

      Hi Marcin

      Thanks for the comment!

“Without their submission you would not be able to lead them, would you?”

Far from underestimating this, I totally agree! Whether Jeff does or not, I don’t know. But I do know, from watching Jeff work, that he is a master of gaining compliance by dominance.

But to be clear here, I’m not saying ‘hypnosis’ is just social compliance, merely that the engineering of compliance is an essential tool of hypnosis.

      All the very best

      James

The podcast part seems to be missing. All that’s showing is a small yellow rectangle saying ‘Invalid Event’. Any chance of having it back up?

Cheers from warm and smiling Thailand,

Having taken a week-long seminar with Jeff, I can attest that in his view compliance is essential and required. And, yes, he is all about taking on a very authoritative, dominating role to ensure compliance. Plus, he’s the sort of big, mean looking guy that you wouldn’t want to mess with.

That said, while I learned a lot from Jeff’s seminar, and he’s a great guy and very able hypnotist, I came away feeling that’s not the style I go for, myself – I’m much more in tune with the HWT approach. I personally had poor success with Jeff’s style (although others at the seminar have done well with it) whereas I’ve had great success with the HWT style.

Along with HOW you get compliance, I think it’s also a matter of:
    1) the hypnotist’s natural style, and
    2) the culture of the clientele he’s dealing with.
